Creative Zen Micro in Japan

The latest Marketing Attack by CREATIVE in Japan. They seem to put money where their mouth is by spending serious advertising dollars, in Japan no less where the market is dominated by Apple-heads.

Maybe the Zen Micro is really gaining .. in mindshare if not in marketshare at least .. for now.

This is a lousy ad campaign. They use a lot of words to argue why you should buy their product. Intellectual approach. Doesn't work.

Compare it to the iPod silhuettes. Simple. Original. Striking. Full of energy.

Explains why it is hard to knock iPod off the throne. Apple has done a damn good job all way round. It's difficult for the competitors to find a way to attack them.

Creative has the typical Windows mindset that lists of features sell products. Apple beleives that usability and design sell products. Guess who's winning? The Zen Micro has a poor interface and their software is lousy. The Mini also stores a gig more. The Japanese value funtion and style so I don't see Creative doing well here.

Who's gonna read all that fine print? You're right - this doesn't hold a candle to the bold iTunes/iPod ads. It all comes down to user experience... be it a computer OS, a hardware interface, the look and feel of tactile response or even marketing materials.

Apple gets it and others don't.

Amazing! This blog looks just like my old one! It's on a entirely different topic but it has pretty much the same page layout and design. Outstanding choice of colors!
